COLUMBUS, Ind.–The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office is offering residents workshops to learn basic ways to deal with physical confrontations. The three classes next month are for verbal de-escalation, self-defense, and firearms training.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Resident
• At least 21 years old
• No felony convictions
• Provide your own handgun, holster, ammunition
• Photo ID
• Firearm carry permit
Residents must attend all three sessions to obtain a certificate. There is no charge, however donations to the Sheriff’s Youth Academy will be accepted. Bartholomew County residents may register now by emailing: sheriff@bartholomew.in.gov. Include your name, street address, and telephone number. Attendees will receive additional information before sessions begin on April 10. Space is limited to 20-30 people.
CLASSES OFFERED:
Verbal De-Escalation Session
April 10, 6 to 9 p.m.
Sheriff’s Office Training Room
This session features simple and effective strategies to help residents respond to difficult behavior in the safest, most effective way possible.
Self-Defense Training
April 12, 6 to 9 p.m.
Columbus North High School
This class promotes awareness and helps attendees build the skills and confidence needed to protect themselves.
Firearms Training
April 14, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Firing Range
Whether new to firearms, seeking to build on existing skills, wanting to feel more confident, or wanting to know the legal aspects of owning a firearm, BCSO instructors will help you reach your goal.
