COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sheriff Matt Myers reminds residents that the transition to a new mail policy for Bartholomew County Jail (BCJ) inmates begins on Monday, December 6.
Mail to inmates is going electronic with Earth Class Mail, an extension of HomeWav. Earth Class Mail receives your postal mail, scans it, and delivers it to the designated email inbox as a PDF.
Inmates have a four-week grace period to inform families and friends of the new process. Incoming mail will be still be received during December, but starting January 3, BCJ will not accept any correspondence. Legal mail from attorneys will not be subject to the change.
Books, magazines, and junk mail are not forwarded to inmates. Do not send them to Earth Class Mail.
The sheriff said, “It shouldn’t be a burden. Correspond as usual but send letters to the Texas address instead of Bartholomew County Jail. They will be scanned and sent electronically to your loved one at no additional cost. The books and magazines policy is not a change, they have not been accepted for years. Reading materials are available to inmates. We want to make this change as easy as possible.”
