COLUMBUS, Ind. – Gov. Holcomb came to Columbus to tout $6 million in state funds going towards the building of NexusPark as part of the state’s Regional Economic Acceleration Development Initiative (READI).
“Every area and region is a big part of this and that’s all 92 counties,” Gov. Holcomb said. “[These regions] coalesced, came together and started not just thinking about the future, but got very involved in taking ideas and blueprints and turning them into READI realities.”
The event took place Thursday morning in the current iteration of NexusPark’s indoor sports fieldhouse portion, the result of phase 1a of the project. Phase 1b will prioritize administrative offices, fitness areas, locker rooms, activity spaces, and more. Gov. Holcomb was joined by Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce Brad Chambers, Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop, and City Director of Administration and Community Development Mary Ferdon.
“People are attracted to communities, they don’t move to states,” Mayor Lienhoop said. “What attracts people are communities that are welcoming, safe, fun, and that offer outstanding schools. READI helps us with that.”
NexusPark, a joint effort by the City of Columbus and Columbus Regional Health (CRH), will include the indoor sports fieldhouse, Columbus Parks and Recreation administrative offices, activity and community spaces, retail, restaurants, and CRH medical and wellness offices.
