COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Columbus Police Department (CPD) and other first responders were called to the 3200 block of Country Brook Street North about a shooting on Friday, September 11, at around 6:30 p.m.
One juvenile male was found shot outside of an apartment building. Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the 17-year-old died at the scene.
The initial investigation indicates that a group of juveniles was fighting when the teenager was shot. Detectives and crime scene investigators are actively investigating and following up on leads.
As the investigation is still in the early stages, no one is in custody at this point.
A CPD spokesperson said, "This tragedy is a stark reminder that firearms in the hands of juveniles can lead to devastating consequences."
