COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has announced the purchase of five portable translation devices designed to improve communication between the Sheriff’s Office and members of the community.

Effective communication is essential to public safety. These devices empower BCSO deputies and corrections officers to quickly and accurately communicate in over 92 languages.

They help reduce language barriers during emergency response, routine interactions, and community engagement efforts.

Sheriff Lane emphasized the importance of this investment, stating, “Our goal is to serve every member of our community with professionalism, respect, and understanding. These translation tools ensure that language differences will not stand in the way of safety or access to services. My office remains committed to adopting innovation that will strengthen community relationships and enhance overall safety.”
