COLUMBUS, Ind. - On September 17, Columbus Police Department (CPD) Lieutenant Alyson Eichel graduated from the 299th FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Fewer than 1% of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.
Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced training for communication, leadership, and fitness.
The 299th session consisted of 265 law enforcement officers from 44 states and the District of Columbia, 28 countries, five military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.
CPD Chief Steve Noman said, “Lt. Eichel’s completion of the FBI National Academy reflects her dedication and professionalism. We’re proud of her hard work and the strong example she sets for our department.”
Lt. Eichel has been with CPD for nearly 14 years, steadily working her way up from a patrol officer. Throughout her career, she has been a field training officer, crisis negotiator, uniform sergeant, and uniform lieutenant. She also played a key role in establishing the crisis intervention team.
She currently serves as the Columbus Police Department’s operations lieutenant, where she leads the department’s officer wellness initiatives, including the peer support team, employee assistance program, annual officer physicals, and annual mental health check-ins.
