NORTH VERNON, Ind. - Jennings County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) Deputy Alex Campbell was recently on patrol when he saw something approaching that immediately caught his attention. It was a motorcycle and he clocked it at 118 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
You read that correctly. The sports bike was going 118 mph. The speed limit was 35 mph. It was traveling 83 miles per hour over the limit, more than three times the legal speed.
At 118 mph, things happen incredibly fast. A vehicle pulling out, a pedestrian stepping into the roadway, an animal crossing, or the slightest loss of control can turn to tragedy in an instant.
Deputy Campbell took action and ultimately arrested the motorcycle operator.
JCSO said, "Our Deputies understand that traffic enforcement isn't just about writing tickets. It's about preventing crashes, protecting innocent motorists, and making sure everyone makes it home safely. Traveling 83 mph over the speed limit is not a mistake. It's a danger to everyone on the road."
