COLUMBUS, Ind. - Columbus City Utilities contractors will begin a waterworks project near Southside Elementary School and the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds on or after Friday, October 9, requiring temporary road closures on Spears Street.
The project involves installing a new water main to upgrade Water Plant No. 2.
To accommodate the crossing, two temporary closures will occur on Spears Street: one near the east end by the railroad tracks, and another near Sink Drive, which leads to the water plant.
These closures will occasionally restrict access to Dunn Stadium and the pickleball courts. Work is scheduled during Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation's fall break to minimize traffic disruptions.
The Spears Street closures depend on the weather. Roads are expected to reopen before classes resume.
To avoid delays, Columbus City Utilities urges motorists to use alternate routes. If you must travel in this area, slow down, use caution, obey work zone signs, and avoid driving while distracted.
