SEYMOUR, Ind. - Step back in time to Indiana’s pioneer days and enjoy the history and natural beauty of Southern Indiana at the annual "Log Cabin Day" festival, Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge on U.S. 50, three miles east of Seymour.
The day’s family-friendly events are free and take place at the historic Myers Family Cabin and Barn, honoring the folks who made this property their home. Attendees will learn about pioneer life in the 1880s.
Activities include live old-time music by the Squirrel Butter Band, historic costumed storytelling, a Myers Cabin and Barn tour, pioneer demonstrations, blacksmithing, Chore-Corral, where kids try chores from yesteryear, and a free ham-and-bean lunch cooked over an open fire with homemade cornbread.
Log Cabin Day kicks off this year’s National Wildlife Refuge Week, October 10-17, and lets visitors explore the Refuge’s hiking trails, auto-tour, birding, fishing, lakes and ponds, and fall colors.
For more information on the Log Cabin Day festival, visit the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society Facebook page or go to muscatatuck.org.
