NORTH VERNON, Ind. - The North Vernon Police (NVPD) and Fire Departments responded to the North Vernon City Park regarding a reported fire on Monday, September 14.
During the investigation, NVPD officers and Jennings County Sheriff's Office deputies determined the fire was intentionally set.
After reviewing surveillance video, law enforcement identified a juvenile suspect as allegedly responsible for the fire. On Tuesday, September 15, the juvenile was taken into custody and charged with felony-level Arson.
Chief Keith Messer stated, “Damage to our parks and other city property affects our entire community. Those responsible will be held accountable for their actions. I’m proud of the work of our officers, deputies, and fire department personnel who worked together to identify the individual.”
Because the suspect is a juvenile, NVPD will release no information about their identity.
All criminal charges are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
