NORTH VERNON, Ind. - In the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 13, the Jennings County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) was dispatched to a residence in Country Squire Lakes in reference to a disturbance.

Upon arrival, deputies came into contact with a male subject who was severely injured. The victim, as well as witnesses, advised that David Parrish, 38, of North Vernon, had allegedly beaten the victim with a baseball bat and then fled on foot before law enforcement's arrival.

A short time later, a local homeowner contacted Dispatch and reported that an unknown man was on their porch. Deputies and officers from the North Vernon Police Department then located Mr. Parrish in the area, where he was taken into custody.

Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, he was flown by a medical helicopter to a trauma center.

Parrish was remanded to the Jennings County Jail, where he was preliminarily charged with Battery with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury. The investigation is continuing, and more charges are possible.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
