North Vernon approves multi-year School Resource Officer agreement

NORTH VERNON, Ind. — The City of North Vernon has renewed its commitment to school safety by approving an updated Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the School Resource Officer (SRO) program.

The SRO program agreement covers a term beginning in January 2027 and running through December 2029, establishing long-term stability for campus safety operations.

The North Vernon Police Department collaborated closely with the Jennings County School Corporation board, which previously reviewed and approved the contract terms.

Police Chief Keith Messer presented the final agreement to the City Council for official endorsement:

  • SRO MOA Approval: Passed unanimously by a 5–0 vote
  • Contract Duration: Operates from January 2027 through the end of 2029
  • Inter-agency Collaboration: Joint effort between NVPD and the local school district
