Greenwood, Ind. – Dr. William K. Long has announced his intent to retire as Superintendent of Center Grove Community School Corporation effective June 30.

As he steps down, Dr. Long concludes a 33-year career in public education, including 28 years of service to Center Grove Schools.

The Center Grove Board of School Trustees accepted his resignation at its meeting on Thursday, January 15.

He began his career with Center Grove Schools as an assistant principal at Center Grove High School. In 2001, after serving as interim principal, he was selected as principal of the high school. Three years later, he was appointed assistant superintendent for operations and was named superintendent in June 2024.

“As I reflect on more than four decades of service to both my country and my community, I am filled with pride and gratitude,” said Dr. Long. “At Center Grove, we rebuilt and strengthened a culture of excellence, embraced innovation, and made the safety and security of our students and staff an uncompromising priority while remaining steadfast in our mission to serve our students academically."

The Board of School Trustees will begin a nationwide search for the next superintendent in partnership with the University Search Team. The position will be posted from Friday, January 16, through Thursday, February 9. A survey of parents, staff, and community members will be open from
January 26 through February 6 to gather feedback from stakeholders on their expectations for the next superintendent.

Interviews will take place during February and March. The Board plans to name the next superintendent in mid-April.

Dr. Long will continue to serve as superintendent through the end of the 2025–2026 school year to support a smooth leadership transition.
