COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Board of Public Works and Safety has approved two key expenditures for the Columbus Police Department (CPD), including upgrading the range and replacing a patrol vehicle.
CPD requested a new dual-runner moving-target system from Action Target for the department's shooting range near the Columbus Municipal Airport. The system, a $20,000 to $25,000 investment, will allow officers to train with moving targets rather than static positions, which better simulates real-life operational scenarios.
Encumbered funds and existing departmental capital budget reserves will pay for the project, with assistance from the Department of Public Works and the Building Department.
The board also approved a replacement patrol car purchase from Community Ford for $44,762. The new vehicle replaces one of two police cars recently totaled in non-fault traffic accidents. Insurance proceeds and remaining capital funds will cover the purchase, with emergency equipment outfitting to follow in Anderson.
