NORTH VERNON, Ind. - The Jennings County School Corporation (JCSC) has released its new personal communication device policy in compliance with the statewide restriction (Indiana law SEA 78). It will be in effect for the 2026-2027 school year.
Included devices are cell phones, personal tablets, gaming devices, smart watches, and smart glasses. Statutory exceptions are IEP/504 plans, medical needs, language translation, or authorized emergencies with administrative approval.
For grades Pre-K through 6, there is a full No Device Policy. Wireless Communication Devices are not permitted at school. Those in grades 7-12 may bring the devices onto school premises, but they must be powered off and stored in lockers for the entire school day.
Consequences for students who violate these rules include verbal warnings, confiscation of the device, parent pickup of the device, or further disciplinary action.
