NORTH VERNON, Ind. — The North Vernon Utility Service Board announced during its October 5 meeting that all municipal water customers will soon receive annual notifications regarding their service line materials.
The mailings, which will go out late this month or in early November, are part of a state-mandated initiative to identify and replace lead service lines by 2037.
The annual notification letter will be sent to all 2,600-plus customers every year for the next 11 years. The document informs homeowners whether their incoming water service line was identified as plastic, lead, galvanized, copper, or unknown.
Water Treatment Supervisor Will Spencer noted that utility officials plan to attend an upcoming state webinar regarding lead service line inventory legislation and funding opportunities. The utility aims to apply for potential state grant money to help offset the cost of service line replacements for local property owners.
