GREENSBURG, Ind. - A truck struck a pedestrian in Decatur County on Thursday afternoon, March 12, and claimed the life of a 69-year-old St. Paul man.
At around 4 p.m. yesterday, the Greensburg Police Department requested the Indiana State Police respond to State Road 3 at Freeland Road regarding a crash that ultimately resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
The initial investigation by the Indiana State Police (ISP)-Versailles Post Crash Reconstruction Team indicated that a semi-tractor-trailer, being driven by Rex Hewitt, 53, of Arlington, Indiana, was northbound on State Road 3 at the stop light at Freeland Road.
While proceeding through the intersection, the vehicle struck Denver Jones, 69, St. Paul, who was attempting to walk across State Road 3.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to an Indianapolis area hospital, where he passed away later that evening.
The truck driver was not injured in the collision. He remained on scene and fully cooperated with authorities.
The ISP investigation is ongoing. Toxicology results are pending at this time.
