FREETOWN, Ind. - Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) maintenance crews plan to begin chip seal operations in Jackson and Lawrence counties on or after Monday, July 6.

Motorists should expect lane closures and flagging operations while work is in progress. Work is expected to take up to three days per location, weather permitting.

Here is the current schedule:

  • Monday, July 6 - Crews will work on State Road 58 between S.R. 446 near Heltonville and S.R. 135 near Freetown
  • Thursday, July 9 - Crews will work on State Road 258 between S.R. 58 near Freetown and just east of the East Fork White River near Seymour

During operations, existing pavement is coated with liquid asphalt, aggregate is applied, and excess material is swept from the roadway. After a curing period, crews will return to fog seal the new driving surface and apply pavement markings under flagging operations.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active work zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
