BROWNSTOWN, Ind. - Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Lynsey N. Fleetwood says that paperwork for a proposed guilty plea has been filed with the Jackson Circuit Court in the case against Emiliano Cuevas Bravo, stemming from the April 30, 2025, shooting at the Jackson County Library in Seymour.
Under the terms of the agreement, Cuevas Bravo has agreed to plead guilty to seven (7) counts of Attempted Murder, each a Level 1 Felony. Cuevas Bravo faces a maximum sentence of 120 years in prison.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Cuevas Bravo initially planned to carry out a shooting at Seymour High School, targeting the School Resource Officer and students. Investigators allege that he changed his plans and traveled to the Jackson County Public Library, where he discharged a shotgun, injuring a library employee. He then pointed the firearm toward other individuals and tried to start a fire before being subdued by a library patron.
Although the guilty plea document has been signed and filed with the Court, Cuevas Bravo still must formally plead guilty in court. A Change of Plea Hearing will be scheduled, and at that Hearing he is expected to formally plead guilty to all seven (7) counts of Attempted Murder.
A separate Sentencing Hearing will then be scheduled at which time the Judge is expected to accept the guilty pleas and impose a sentence. The State and the Defense can then argue for the appropriate sentence within the specified range. The Jackson County Circuit Court will determine the final sentence.
Because the Court has not yet formally accepted the negotiated plea agreement, Emiliano Cuevas Bravo remains presumed innocent under the law unless and until proven guilty. The allegations in the probable cause affidavit are not findings of guilt.
