COLUMBUS, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College Columbus has named Dr. Julie Bilz its first Professor Emerita, recognizing her contributions to teaching, faculty leadership, program development, and student success.
Bilz, who is transitioning into retirement after over 15 years at the College, joined Ivy Tech as an adjunct faculty member in 2005 and became a full-time faculty member in 2009. She has spent her career preparing future educators while strengthening academic programs, supporting faculty, and improving the student experience. Although retiring from her full-time role, she will continue teaching part-time at Ivy Tech.
The title of Professor Emerita is awarded to faculty members who have demonstrated significant teaching experience at Ivy Tech, achieved the rank of Professor, and made meritorious contributions to the College, community, or their academic discipline.
"The Ivy Tech Columbus Campus is honored to name Dr. Bilz as our first Professor Emerita," said Dr. Jackie Fischer, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. "Dr. Bilz has contributed at a high level during her tenure, and this recognition reflects the lasting impact she has made on our students, faculty, and institution."
Bilz also served as campus Faculty Council lead, representing faculty interests and collaborating with colleagues across Indiana. She participated in statewide curriculum and academic committees, helping guide discussions related to program outcomes and academic quality
