COLUMBUS, Ind. – Registration is open for the summer "Precision Driving for Teens" course hosted by the Columbus Police Department (CPD).

This year's classes will be held on June 5, June 26, and July 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Columbus Police Department.

This course is a one-day program that includes classroom instruction and hands-on driving at a closed driving track. Some experience with everyday driving is preferred, as this course is designed to teach advanced driving maneuvers.

Students will be taught vehicle dynamics and safety tips, as well as legal aspects of driving in the classroom. At the track, students will learn how to make safe panic stops, safe evasive steering maneuvers, and off-road recoveries. They will also practice their backing and parallel parking skills.

CPD provides cars for the course, and transportation to the track is provided. The cost is $25. Registration opens on March 23 and closes when each class reaches capacity (20 students).
