COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District (BCSWMD) is honoring Earth Day with a special event at the Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center, 720 S. Mapleton St., on Friday, April 24, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Individuals can get "amnesty" for hard-to-dispose-of wastes, such as up to two refrigerant-containing appliances, four tires, and two gas grill tanks, all disposed of at no cost.
Tree giveaways, plant swaps, and educational displays take place throughout the day.
The BCSWMD Earth Day event also includes:
- TVs/computer monitors disposal ($20 each)
- Document shredding from 9 to 11 a.m.
- Free pickup truck load of mulch or compost from 8 a.m. to noon
- Hot Dog roast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The celebration is for Bartholomew County citizens only, and not for businesses or out-of-county residents.
