COLUMBUS, Ind. - Sentencing was held last Thursday for a local man who was charged with battery in October 2025. Brandon Weddle, 27, of Columbus, pled guilty on February 23 to Battery Against a Public Safety Official (Level 6 Felony) and Domestic Battery (Class A misdemeanor).
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) responded to a call about a residential entry on October 3.
Officers detained a suspect, who kicked them and tried to spit on them. Weddle’s criminal history contained three prior convictions for battery-related offenses, including two that had occurred against law enforcement.
Weddle was sentenced to two and a half years to be served in the Indiana Department of Corrections by Judge Kelly Benjamin of the Bartholomew Circuit Court.
The sentencing range for a Level 6 Felony is 6 months to 2.5 years, with an advisory sentence of 1 year. The sentencing range for a Class A misdemeanor is between 0 days and 1 year.
