CPD receives several scam reports from residents

Courtesy-Columbus Police Department

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Columbus Police Department (CPD) announced this week that it had received several reports of people being scammed by callers claiming to be from local law enforcement.

The fraudster will say you missed jury duty, and you have to pay (usually in Bitcoin) to prevent a warrant being issued for your arrest. This is not true and is a scam.

Anytime someone requests money in the form of cryptocurrency or prepaid gift cards, you should be suspicious. Con artists commonly use these forms of payment because they make it harder to trace the money back to them.

The jury duty hoax is just one of many schemes scammers use to steal your money. You can learn more about this type of scheme by clicking here.
