Local insurance agency debuts ‘Protect Those Who Protect Us’ program

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Alisha Roberts State Farm Insurance Agency has launched “Protect Those Who Protect Us,” a new community initiative pledging $1,000 each month to support a local volunteer fire department.

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Alisha Roberts State Farm Insurance Agency has launched “Protect Those Who Protect Us,” a new community initiative pledging $1,000 each month to support a local volunteer fire department. The January 2026 pledge will benefit the East Columbus Independent Fire Department, also known as Columbus Township Fire and Rescue.

The program honors volunteer firefighters who risk their lives to protect the community, often with limited resources, while balancing full-time jobs and family responsibilities.

“Many people don’t realize the true cost of protecting a community,” said Alisha Roberts. “A pair of fireproof boots or gloves can cost $500, and it can take as much as $20,000 to train and fully equip one volunteer firefighter. While local taxes, state funding, and federal grants help, local fundraising is essential.”

Funds from the monthly pledge may help offset the cost of essential equipment, safety gear, training, and operational needs. In many communities, volunteer fire departments have historically relied on fundraisers such as fish fries and community events, which have seen declining participation and revenue in recent years.

Beyond the monthly pledge, the initiative is also a call to action for the community. “If you can’t give financially, you can still give with your hands and feet,” Roberts said. “Volunteer your time, help with fundraising efforts, or find ways to support your local department because protecting the community is something we do together.”

Each month, a different local volunteer fire department will be recognized. Community members can learn more about how they can support their local volunteer fire department by calling Alisha Roberts at 812-669-2410 or emailing alisha@agentalisha4u.com.
