INDIANAPOLIS - Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon was honored last weekend by the Asian Pacific American Public Affairs (APAPA) Indiana Chapter for her leadership in making Columbus a welcoming, inclusive, and resilient community.
Mayor Ferdon received APAPA’s Community Strength in Unity Award during the organization’s 2026 Annual Gala on Saturday, August 22, at the Dallara IndyCar Experience in Indianapolis.
Her recognition highlighted her administration’s work to advance affordable housing, improve public transit, support downtown revitalization, strengthen public safety, and uplift Asian American and Pacific Islander residents through cultural events, public programs, and community engagement.
“Civic engagement is critical for a healthy community which welcomes everyone,” Ferdon said. “When residents engage in civic life through their voices, time, and talents, our community is stronger, more resilient, and we can achieve a great many things.”
The gala recognized ten Community Contribution Award recipients, including Mayor Ferdon. Local dance groups Infinite Rhythms by Ruhana and the Columbus Women Dance Team performed during the event.
APAPA also celebrated youth scholarship recipients and participants in its Young Leadership Development Program.
