AMITY, Ind. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis has issued a Flood Warning for Youngs Creek at Amity in Johnson County until Friday afternoon. Flood stage for Youngs Creek at Amity is 7 feet. At 2:25 a.m. on Thursday, the Creek was at 5.3 feet.
The waterway is expected to rise above flood stage Thursday morning to a crest of 9.3 feet late Thursday afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late Friday morning.
Usually, when the Creek rises above 9 feet, Johnson County Roads 350S and 400S, west of US 31, are closed by floodwaters. Upstream in the Youngs Creek watershed, flooding of the City of Franklin parks is possible with the water reaching 3 feet deep in some areas.
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
