NORTH VERNON, Ind. -The North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) took a local man into custody following alleged armed threats at the intersection of State Road 3 and Madison Avenue on Friday, March 20.

Officers responded to a report of a male subject threatening a driver at around 3 p.m. Dispatch advised that a male on a bicycle had approached a vehicle stopped at a traffic light and displayed what appeared to be a handgun.

Police quickly located and detained the suspect, Mark A. Huber, 64, of North Vernon, in the area of Madison Avenue and Industrial Drive.

NVPD contacted the victim, who reported that Huber approached his vehicle, produced what he believed to be a handgun, and caused him to fear for his safety. The victim fled the intersection to avoid further confrontation and later positively identified Huber as the suspect.

During the investigation, officers located the weapon, which had been discarded near the scene. The item was later determined to be an antique cap gun.

When law enforcement searched the suspect, marijuana was allegedly found in his possession. Huber was transported to the Jennings County Jail without incident and charged with:

  • Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana (B Misdemeanor)

All subjects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
