NORTH VERNON, Ind. - A traffic stop conducted by the Jennings County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) resulted in the arrest of a North Vernon man on multiple drug-related charges on Tuesday, July 21.
Lt. Thomas Mellencamp initiated a traffic stop on Alex Simmons, 37, of North Vernon, after observing multiple traffic infractions in the Country Squire Lakes area at around 11:30 p.m.
During the course of the JCSO investigation, probable cause was established to search the vehicle. It resulted in the discovery of approximately four grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
During an interview with law enforcement, Simmons allegedly admitted to dealing meth and stated that he was "giving it to people who needed it."
Simmons was taken into custody and transported to the Jennings County Jail, where he is being held on the following preliminary charges:
- Dealing Methamphetamine – Level 4 Felony
- Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 6 Felony
- Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
- Possession of Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor
All criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
