Vernon Moves: Fitness & Community Healthfest Set for May 16

VERNON, IN — The Jennings County community is invited to come together for a day of movement, wellness, and connection at Vernon Moves: Fitness & Community Healthfest, taking place on Saturday, May 16, at the Vawter Recreation Center in Vernon.

Hosted by the Jennings County Department of Health in partnership with Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness & Art, Inc., this free, family-friendly event is designed to promote accessible health and wellness opportunities for all ages and abilities.
In addition to a full day of fitness and interactive activities, the event will offer a wide range of free health screenings and services, making it a unique opportunity for community members to check in on their health in a supportive, welcoming environment. Early detection, prevention, and access to care are critical in improving long-term health outcomes—especially in rural communities where resources can be limited.

Free services available during the event include:
● Blood pressure checks
● Free dental screenings provided by the Indiana Department of Health Dental Unit
● Vaccinations available on site
● Multiple wellness screenings offered by local organizations and agencies
● Bicycle helmet raffle promoting safety and injury prevention
The event will also feature activities throughout the day, including:
● Group fitness sessions and yoga demonstrations
● Family Sports Mini-Clinics
● Healthy Cooking Demonstrations
● Wellness education and community resources
● Interactive activities for youth and families
Participants can move at their own pace, explore different forms of exercise, and connect with local organizations offering health-related services and support. Activities will take place across multiple spaces within the Vawter Recreation Center, including the gym, stage, and library areas.
