FISHERS, Ind. - Indiana State Police (ISP) troopers are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Wednesday night, August 18, on I-69 in Fishers. Dispatchers began receiving emergency calls around 9:45 p.m. about what appeared to be a dead body in front of a van on the northbound right shoulder, just south of exit 210.
First responders found a motionless adult male. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was later identified as 36-year-old Gregory S. Christopher II of Parker City, Indiana.
The preliminary investigation has determined Christopher had a flat tire on his van. It appears he was struck by a northbound vehicle while changing the tire. The vehicle that struck him did not remain on the scene. Investigators have been following leads and continue to search for the person responsible.
ISP believes the victim may have been stopped on the side of I-69 for nearly 45 minutes before 911 calls began coming in.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen the accident or has information about the incident to contact the State Police. Anyone who was driving on I-69 northbound or southbound in the area of the 209 mile marker (just south of exit 210) on August 18 between 8:45 and 9:45 p.m. and has a vehicle equipped with dash cameras, please preserve the footage and contact police. Even if the person did not witness the actual crash or the suspect vehicle, their video could hold valuable information for the investigation.
