SEYMOUR, Ind. - The Seymour Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to the 100 block of E. Laurel Street for a reported structure fire early Monday morning, February 2.
Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke contained within the structure. An offensive attack was initiated, and entry was made approximately five feet into the structure, where crews encountered heavy flames and smoke.
The roof then collapsed, forcing them to exit the building. At that time, operations transitioned to a defensive attack.
The blaze was subsequently brought under control and fully extinguished. Firefighters then conducted overhaul and salvage operations.
CFD investigators determined the cause of the fire to be a space heater placed too close to bedding and other combustible materials.
